FAQ – frequently ask questions
I handle every project with care and adapt to each client’s needs.
Services Offered
What audio services are offered?
Services include audio restoration, audio mixing, music mixing, music mastering, audio recording, and audio post-production. These services are intended for music projects, podcasts, videos, films, web content, and audio archives
Are music mixing and mastering services available?
Yes.
Music mixing focuses on balancing instruments, dynamics, equalization, and stereo imaging to achieve a coherent and artistic result. Music mastering is the final stage before release, optimizing loudness, tonal balance, and adapting audio to distribution standards.
Audio Quality & Restoration
What is audio restoration?
Audio restoration aims to improve existing recordings by reducing background noise, hiss, clicks, unwanted artifacts, and minor distortions while preserving a natural and intelligible sound.
Can low-quality recordings be improved?
In many cases, significant improvement is possible. Complete removal of all defects is not always achievable without affecting the main signal. The process focuses on balancing clarity and natural sound.
Types of projects
What types of projects are handled?
Services cover:
- music productions
- podcasts and interviews
- videos (corporate, web, social media)
- films, short films, and documentaries
- audio archives and legacy recordings
Each project is evaluated based on its intended use.
Languages & communication
Are projects in other languages accepted ?
Yes! Audio projects can be handled in any language. The language of the content is not a limitation for audio mixing, mastering, or restoration. Project communication is available in French, English, and Spanish.
Files & Formats
Which audio file formats are recommended?
Uncompressed formats such as WAV and AIFF are recommended. Compressed formats (MP3) are accepted but limit professional audio processing possibilities.
How can audio or video files be delivered?
Files can be delivered via WeTransfer, Google Drive, or Dropbox. For multitrack or audiovisual projects, a dedicated file structure can be provided.
Workflow & Deliverables
Is a preview provided before final delivery?
A short before/after preview may be provided to validate the processing direction before final delivery, depending on the project.
Can stems or multiple versions be delivered?
Delivery may include a final mix, audio stems (voice, music, effects, ambiences), and specific versions such as M&E, defined prior to the project.
Is audio/video synchronization available?
Audio/video synchronization is carried out according to professional film and broadcast post-production standards.
A synchronization beep must be provided:
- with a duration of one frame (1 frame),
- placed 2 seconds before the first frame:
- 48 frames at 24 fps,
- 50 frames at 25 fps,
- present at the same timecode in the video and in all audio files,
- clearly audible (generally a 1 kHz beep).
This reference is essential. The absence of a compliant sync beep or any inconsistency between the video and the audio files significantly complicates synchronization, requires manual adjustments, and can result in a substantial loss of working time without any added value to the process.
Turnaround & Revisions
What are the usual turnaround times?
Turnaround times depend on duration and complexity:
- short files or voice recordings: 24–48 hours
- podcasts or long audio projects: 2–5 days
- audiovisual post-production: defined on a case-by-case basis
Are revisions included?
One to two revision rounds are generally included, depending on the service. Major additional changes may require an adjustment.
Technical Standards & Tools
Are broadcast and loudness standards respected?
Deliverables can comply with loudness standards such as EBU R128, as well as platform-specific streaming requirements.
Which audio tools are used?
Processing is performed using Pro Tools, iZotope RX, and professional tools dedicated to audio restoration, mixing, mastering, and post-production.
Pricing & Quotes
How is pricing determined?
Pricing depends on file duration, service type, complexity level, requested deadlines, and delivery formats. A detailed quote is provided before any work begins.
How can a quote be requested?
To prepare an estimate, the following information is required:
- audio or video duration
- requested service
- expected delivery format
- sample or download link
- desired delivery date
How does payment work?
The quote and the invoice are issued by the SMART cooperative, which handles the administrative aspects. Payment is made directly to SMART.
Collaboration & Remote Work
Can audio services be carried out remotely?
All audio services are primarily performed remotely. Communication is mainly handled electronically (email, file transfers) and, if necessary, via video conferencing. Remote collaboration allows for flexible organization, efficient project monitoring, and adherence to deadlines, regardless of the client’s location.
Is it possible to work on site or travel depending on the project?
Depending on the nature of the project, on-site work or travel may be considered. The conditions are defined on a case-by-case basis, according to technical, geographical, and organizational constraints. However, the majority of services can be carried out remotely.
Are atypical audio projects accepted?
Of course ! Projects that fall outside a standard framework can be reviewed to assess their feasibility and to propose an appropriate technical solution.
